Debbie Stephens

(From Parker Mortuary)

Debbie Stephens of Carl Junction peacefully passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on November 26, 2020 following a brief illness. Debbie was an adoring and devoted wife, kind and caring daughter, best friend and sister, a special aunt and niece, and to so many others an inspiration.

Debbie was born on May 28, 1960 in Joplin. She graduated from Memorial High School and soon after married the love of her life, Glenn Stephens, who survives her.

Together Debbie and Glenn owned and operated Covert Electric Motors. In their spare time they enjoyed traveling. She and Glenn loved animals and cared for many dogs, cats, birds, and a fox together over their years together.

Music was a big part of Debbie’s life. Her mother says she could sing before she could talk. She was a frequent soloist at Eastview Baptist Church and sang in their choir.

Debbie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Harold and Mildred Roberts and Vida Short.

In addition to her husband of 42 years, she is survived by her parents, Donald R. and Joyce Sue Short, of Joplin; sister, Donna Simmons (Woody), of Tallahassee, Florida; many nieces and nephews, as well as an innumerable amount of friends whom she cherished.

The family wishes to extend a sincere thanks to Dr. Mary Bourland, a dear friend who spent countless hours caring for Debbie.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 1, at Mount Hope Cemetery with Dr. Tim Sumners officiating. Her extremely dedicated employees will honor her life by serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Gideons International.
