George Gurley

Mr. George Richard Gurley, 77, of Sarcoxie, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020 in the comfort of his own home.

George was born on January 11, 1943 in Carthage, Missouri to the union of the late Richard L. and Betty J. (Marrett) Gurley. He was a graduate of Sarcoxie High School. 

On January 26, 1964 he was united in marriage to Margaret Ruth Bachtold. Together they shared fifty-six years. George proudly served in the United States Army. During his service he received several commendations including, Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooters Badge (Rifle) and the National Defense Service Medal. Prior to entering the service he was employed with Menefee Construction Co. 








After his discharge from the Army, he returned to Menefee Construction, and worked as their Project Manager for a total employment of thirty-three years. He then worked for Americold Logistics, retiring after eleven years.

George was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He enjoyed frog gigging, fishing, and wine making. George was his grandchildren’s number one fan, attending sporting events and dance recitals. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. George will truly be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Richard and Rayma Gurley; mother, Betty Jo Marrett; and his sister, Elizabeth Kistler.

George is survived by his wife, Ruth; children, Gina Revel and husband, Jason, of Leawood, Kansas, Erik Gurley and wife, Lisa, of Bentonville, Arkansas and Jared Gurley of Sarcoxie; grandchildren, Ahnika Littlefield of Portland, Oregon, Cailyn Revel of Leawood, Kansas and Zoe Gurley of Sarcoxie; sister, Nancy Williamson of Dallas, Texas; brother-in-law’s, Dale Bachtold of Sarcoxie and Roger Kistler of Dallas, Texas; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Memorial services with military honors for George are 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home with Pastor Wil Meyer officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
