Daisy Marie Collier Hodges, age 84 of Joplin, passed away at Garden Terrace of Overland Park, KS. on Sunday, June 1, 2014.
Born August 5, 1929 in Nickerson, KS, she was the daughter of the late Willis and Emma Lawrence Collier and had lived in Joplin since 1976, moving from Lenexa, KS. She and her husband owned and operated the former Hodges Grocery on South 43 Hwy near Joplin. She also was a greeter at Wal-Mart for nine years. Daisy was a member of Christ’s Community United Methodist Church, a volunteer for Area Agency on Aging and was active in Joplin Senior Bowling League.
On September 20, 1947 she married Roy N. Hodges in Kansas City, MO. He preceded her in death December 31, 1988. A son, Neil Hodges, also preceded her in 2008.
Survivors include a son, Roy Hodges and wife Lettie of Webb City; three daughters, Shari Adams and husband Jerry of Webb City, Willa Franklin of Westfield, IN, Jo Ann Verheaghe and husband Jerry of Bucyrus, KS; a brother, Jon Collier of Camdenton, MO; two sisters, Juanita Harrington of Castle Rock, CO, Beverly Thompson and husband Clarence of Galena, MO; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Parker Chapel. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery with Roy Neil Hodges, Jeremy Hodges, Aaron Hodges, Trey Tripp, Phillip Adams and Anthony Verheaghe serving as pallbearers. Brett Graham, Tanner Hodges and Cohen Hodges will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
