Dorothy Solomonson, 92, passed away June 4, 2014 in Carthage, Missouri.
Dorothy was born the youngest of nine children May 21, 1922 in Avilla, MO to Henry Lee Johnson and Martha A. (Shands) Johnson. She was a lifetime area resident. Dorothy was a housewife and had worked at H.E. Williams during WWII. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carthage for 60 years. Dorothy was a member of the Carthage Garden Club and a member of the music society.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Clyde E. Slates January 5, 1944 in Columbus, KS he preceded her in death September 23, 1985. Dorothy was then married to Carl A. Solomonson, he preceded her in death August of 1991. Dorothy is survived by two daughters June Griffith and husband Bob Sr. of Carthage, and Joyce Vanlue and husband Mike of Neosho, one son Jack Slates and wife Jeanie of Carthage, seven grandchildren Lori Cooley (Walt), Bobby Griffith Jr. (Cynthia), Christy Mathern, Michael Slates (Laura), Josh Slates, Justin Slates (Alexis) and James Slates, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters, and two grandchildren Ronald Eugene Lindsay and Jamison Lee Slates.
Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday June 9, 2014 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday June 6, 2014 at the Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be at Park Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Mt Vernon Children’s Home in care of Ulmer Funeral Home. Online condolences can be made at www.ulmerfh.com.
