Ruth N. Fenimore, age 91, passed away Monday June 2, 2014 at her home.
She had been in ill health. Ruth was born May 2, 1923 in Haven, Kansas. Ruth was one of ten children born to Gladys (Miller) and Robert Lee Newman. She grew up in the old Atlas community south west of Carthage. She graduated in May of 1941 from Duenweg High School, shortly thereafter; she married Harold D. Fenimore on July 4, 1941. To this union they had two children Stephen Gayle and Cherri Lynn. Ruth was a longtime Carthage resident; she sold Avon for many years in the Carthage area. She was employed by Jaffe Shoes on the west side of the Carthage square. She also worked for Van Perks clothing and Davidson Shoes. In later years she worked for Taylor’s Men’s and Ladies wear in Webb City. She enjoyed bowling on a league at the old Star Lanes, she also enjoyed being in a neighborhood card club in the Brooklyn Heights area. Ruth had been a longtime member of the Peace Star chapter of ABWA. In later years she took up round dancing to stay active. Ruth attended many Army Re-unions every August to commemorate the WWII army members of the 273rd field artillery company B of which her late husband had been a member. The last one attended was the 65th. Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carthage and enjoyed being a member of the Bell Choir.
Ruth is survived by one daughter Cherri Cameron and husband Paul of St. Genevieve, MO, one grandson Stacy Cameron and wife Andrea of El Dorado Springs, MO a great granddaughter Melissa Cameron of St. Ann, MO, two great grandsons Travis and William Cameron and one great granddaughter Sadie Cameron and little Isabell due in September, one sister Pat Rhodes of Joplin, MO, and one brother Gayle Newman of the state of Nevada, several nieces and nephews. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Harold in 1983, her son Stephen in 2013, her brother Loyd Newman and four sisters Marge Chronowski, Marie Duke, Beulah Miksell, Esther Powell and a baby brother and sister. She was also preceded in death by one great grandbaby Darren James Cameron in 2013.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Hospice Compassus members from Lamar, MO office. They helped care for mother in her last months. They are as follows: Mary Reinholtz, RN, Starla Smith, Bath Aide, Kelly Brock, RN, T.J. Houston, Social Services Director, Katrina Edie, RN, Bud Clapp, Minster, and office manager Kathy Romero.
Graveside Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday June 7, 2014 at Sterling Cemetery outside of Carthage. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. Friday June 6, 2014 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Sterling Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Bell choir at the First United Methodist Church of Carthage in care of Ulmer Funeral Home.
