Della Buchanan

Della Mae Chatman-Buchanan was born July 14, 1934 in Fort Smith, Arkansas one of seven children to James A. and Flora E. (Monroe) Capps. She entered into rest on September 26, 2019 in Joplin, Missouri, following a long illness at the age of 85.

Della spent her childhood in South Fort Smith, Arkansas, the daughter of a smelter worker. 

She married James W. Chatman, Sr. at the age of 16 and to this union, five children were born. She relocated to Neosho in 1959 where she raised her children and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. in 1969, she joined the work force at Buddy-L, later working at Sale Memorial Hospital and Teledyne in Quality Control. She later moved to Arkansas City, Kansas to work for General Electric, first in quality control and then as a buyer. She volunteered at Freeman Neosho Hospital for many years and had been active in the Red Hat Organization and Newcomer's Club. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she found a close group of friends. 








Della married James S. Buchanan on May 7, 1988 and he preceded her in death. 

She is survived by five children, James W. Chatman, Jr. of Neosho; Ira Douglas Chatman and wife, Deborah of Mt. Home, Arkansas; Steven Chatman and wife, Catherine of Davis, California; Laura Chatman of Neosho and Brian Chatman and wife, Julie of Columbia; seven grandchildren, Micaela Chatman, Ariel Kleczewski, Clelland Chatman, Kyle Chatman, Sarah Vercruysse, Lillian Harr and Clayton Chatman and four great grandchildren, Arthur Chatman, Matilda Chatman, Adam Vercuysse, Lucy Kleczewski and one due to arrive in April, 2020. 

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and six siblings.
