Irene J. Ritter, age 85, Joplin, passed away at 2:55 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2017 at Freeman Hospital after an illness.
Irene was born June 12, 1931 in Ironton, Ohio to the late Cecil Pippin and Jennie Crance Pippin and had lived in Joplin most of her life.
A homemaker, Irene was a longtime volunteer with the former St. John's Regional Medical Center. She was also a 4-H leader and Sunday school teacher. Irene enjoyed playing BINGO and was a regular at Bowl East and 4th Street Bowl. She was a faithful member of Christ Community United Methodist Church.
She married Willie Ritter on November 15, 1950 in Joplin. He preceded her in death on November 22, 1998.
Irene was also preceded in death by a an infant son, Billie Joe; one brother, Herb and two sisters, Mary and Betty.
Survivors include three daughters, Helen Bishop and her husband, Randy, Joplin, Annie Henderson and her husband, Allen, Carl Junction, Tammy Ellis and her husband, David, Duenweg; one brother, Boyd Pippin and his wife, Sarah, Neosho; grandchildren, Donovan Bishop, Amy Wright, Timothy Bishop, Travis Ritter, Bryan Partian; and great grandchildren, Tyler, Taler, Adison, Patrick, Matti, Samantha, Val, Jonathon, Shawn, Colby, Makayla, Megan, Aubrey, Kamdan and Kitana.
Graveside services are planned for Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery. Rev. Randy Bishop and Rev. Bob Dart will officiate. Pallbearers will be Donovan Bishop, Timothy Bishop, Travis Ritter, Bryan Partian, Jack Gougler and Allen Henderson. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Shrine Club Travel Fund, in care of Parker Mortuary.
