George R. Brown, age 90, of Joplin, passed away on Friday April 7, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his family.
George was born on January 2, 1927 in Joplin, the son of the late Donald R. and Ruby Bell (Coffey) Brown. He has been a lifetime area resident. He served in the United States Army.
He worked as an electrical contractor. He had kept records noting that he had wired over five hundred homes and that he had built fifty-five houses. He also had worked for Thomas Fruit Company and Pet Milk. He enjoyed raising cows, and gardening. More than anything he loved helping people and he always enjoyed a good hard day of work.
George married Twila J. Fenimore on March 20, 1949. She preceded him in death on July 2, 2016. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stan Brown on July 16, 1978; a brother, Ralph Brown; and a sister Joyce Bradley.
Survivors include a son, Bob Brown and wife Karen, Webb City, Mo.; a daughter, Linda Marrs and husband Jerry, Joplin; nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and eighteen great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 11th at the Mt. Hope Cemetery Open Air Chapel. Reverend Bob Simon will officiate. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
