Timothy Howard Gilbert, age 70, lifelong resident of Joplin, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at his home following a brief battle with cancer. He was a loving and devoted husband, dad, and papa, who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Tim was born on March 8, 1947 in Joplin, son of the late Homer Gray Gilbert and Deana Ruth Dillon Gilbert. He was very proud of his hometown. He was the youngest of four sons. In addition to his parents, Tim was preceded in death by brothers, Bob Gilbert and Charles Gilbert, and a half sister, Mary Beth Krum.
Tim graduated from Joplin High School in 1965 before going to work for Pepsi, Tamko, and Wallace Leisure Products. He then began a career with Farmer's Chemical (now PCS Phosphates) where he worked for 30 years before retiring in 2004.
Tim was united in marriage to Connie Evelyn Cobb on May 1, 1970 in Joplin. She survives at the home. To this union were born two beautiful daughters, Tamera "Tammy" Gilbert of Joplin, and Teresa Forest and husband Kevin of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Trey Forest, Ava Forest, and Eden Gilbert; brother, Duane Gilbert and wife Betty of Webb City, and several extended family and friends.
Tim was a wonderful, hardworking man. He never met a stranger and was never at a loss for words. Tim genuinely loved getting to know people and never forgot anything. He loved trout fishing with his dear friend Norm. He enjoyed gardening and would share his bounty with friends and neighbors. He loved taking care of his yard and flowers, and tinkering in his shop.
Tim was especially proud of his grandchildren and always enjoyed spending time with them. They loved their Papa, and he loved them. Tim will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and his dog Tico.
