Billie Joe Lentz, 81, Neosho, passed away April 9, 2017 at Freeman Neosho Hospital.
He was born May 27, 1935 in a log cabin in Stella, Missouri to Crawford Thomas and Bonnie Arleta (Arndts) Lentz. Billie served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1975. He was a career Army man, wood carver, teacher, gun smith and artist. He also owned and operated Unicorn Gun Shop from 1983 to 1991. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and was very active in the United Methodist Church Men’s Group. He was also a member of the Tri-State Wood Carvers Guild and the Senior Men’s Golf League.
Billie married Sue (Paden) on January 17, 1975 in Neosho and she survives of the home. Also surviving are four children, Cindy Jo Staponski and husband, Rick of Purdy, MO, Billie J. Lentz, Jr. of Bentonville, AR, Paul Thomas Lentz and wife, Miranda of Bentonville, AR and William Channing Lentz and wife, Kristen of Springfield, MO; sister, Geri Webb of Diamond, MO and four grandchildren, Jacy, Katy, Brandon and Andrew. In addition to his parents, Billie is preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Kay Gibson.
Services will be held Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Neosho with Pastor Mitch Jarvis officiating. Interment and full military honors will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery in Stella. The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home in Neosho. The casket will be closed after visitation and will remain closed.
