Marvin Earl Johnston, Sr. age 73, Joplin, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at his home with family at his side.
Marvin was born September 24, 1943 in Joplin, son of the late Jesse Leo "Jack" Johnston and Charlotte Mae Tate Johnston. He attended Joplin, Spring City, and Seneca Schools, graduating from Seneca High School. He worked as a machinist for Vickers, King Press, and Eagle Picher. He enjoyed playing pool, camping, horse shoes, reading, and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
Marvin loved to sing songs for the Lord. He loved serving the Lord, and showed this by his love of family and friends, and helping those in need any chance he could, especially the elderly.
In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by brothers, Edfred Johnston, J.D. Vincent Johnston, and Bob Johnston; a sister, Flora Johnston, and some nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Vera Ann Owens Johnston; sons, Marvin William Johnston and wife Wendy, Marvin Earl Johnston, Jr. and wife Susan; grandchildren, Tyler Jesse Johnston, Jake Lee Johnston, Andrea R. Johnston Owens and husband Chester, Chase D. Johnston, Sierra C. Johnston all of Joplin; sisters, Cora Seat of Webb City, Missouri, and Dorita Clark of Birmingham, Alabama.
Funeral service will be Monday, April 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Steve Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow in Saginaw Cemetery with Marvin William Johnston, Tyler Johnston, Jake Johnston, Jack Owens, Frank Saunders, Marty McCammon serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Herb Owens, Henry Owens, II, and Marcus Martin.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Sunday from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Parker Mortuary to help with final expenses.
