(From Parker Mortuary)
John W. Petty, age 66, Joplin, went to Heaven to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Freeman Hospital. He fought a courageous battle with ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease.
John was born November 10, 1950 to the late Joe and Betty (Athay) Petty.
He worked as a machinist at Midwest Tool in Webb City for many years until his retirement.
John loved outdoor sports. He enjoyed bass fishing and participated in several professional bass tournaments. You could also find him hunting deer, playing golf or racing stock cars at the old Route 66 Speedway. John also bowled in several leagues and played pool for years at the OK Bar and in several tournaments in Las Vegas. He was loved and respected by everyone that knew him. He could be counted on if you needed help with anything. One of his favorite memories was eating Thanksgiving dinner every year at the home of his niece, Pam Lucas.
John is survived by his siblings, Jerry Petty and wife, Kathy, Carl Junction, JoAnn Wellmeier, Joplin, Wilma Waters and husband, Richard, Vinita, Oklahoma, Mary Wier and husband, Robert, Joplin, Stanley Petty and wife, Marta, Joplin. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, one of whom is Brian Wellmeier, who was like a father to him. He taught him all the sports he loves also. Taught by the master sportsman.
Services are planned for Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Jamie Tickle will officiate. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Qualls, Flo Coffman, Bill Belcher, Tom Riddle, Larry Updegraff and Larry Huffman.
The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to ALS, in care of Parker Mortuary.
The following is a tribute to all my friends and pool players at the OK Bar and Billiards, "Play one for me in my honor".
John will always be in our hearts and memories forever. Rest in peace dear one!
