Carolyn Jean Thompson, age 66, of Liberal, Missouri, passed Monday, April 10, 2017 at Truman Healthcare Center after a long illness.
Carolyn was born July 13, 1950 in Ft. Scott, Kansas to Wilbert Wayne Spurling and Ethel Marie (Bogart) Spurling. She had attended Liberal schools as was proud that she was able to earn her GED. On September 8, 1967, she married Darrel L. Thompson in Oskaloosa, Missouri and together they raised three children. They later divorced.
Carolyn worked at Peerless Products and National Mills in Pittsburg, Kansas as well as Sugar Creek Packaging in Frontenac. She attended Church of God Holiness in Liberal. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, camping, hunting, horseback riding, gardening and canning. Carolyn was known as being a good cook.
Carolyn is survived by one daughter, Laminda Thompson, Liberal, Missouri; two brothers, Darrell, and wife Kim Spurling and Mike Spurling and a sister, Cora Ganger, all of Liberal, Missouri; four grandchildren, Jacob Chapman, Kaysha Chapman, Brandon Thompson, and Kaitlyn Thompson; three great grandchildren, Aaron Chapman, Harmony Brown, and Mandolin Chapman; step-mother, Velma Spurling, and a large extended family.
Preceding her in death are her parents, a son, Eddie Thompson in 1999 and a daughter Lavona Chapman in 2009, as well as two brothers, Randy, and Robert McMechan.
Graveside service will be 2:00 pm, Friday, April 14, 2017 at Bluff Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday at Daniel Funeral Home.
