Mr. Herschel Glenn Houf, 88, of Anderson, Missouri departed this life Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at his home after an illness.
Herschel entered this life on August 18, 1928, in Steadman, MO to the late Herschel B. and Fern (Vincent) Houf. Herschel faithfully served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. In 1966 he was united in marriage to Janice Leach in Coossa County, Alabama and to this union four Children were born. Herschel worked most of his life as a tile setter but his true passion training Quarter Horses. He also enjoyed helping his church mission by walking a 10 mile stretch of road to pick up cans to sell for donations. He was known as the Calloway County Kid, who wandered the world serving his country and was known for doing the best job, loved his family and kept God in the center of his life.
Herschel is survived by his wife Janice of 50 years, two sons; Raymond Houf of Brandon, MS and Robert W. Houf of Louisville, KY, two daughters; Cynthis J. Skipworth of Terry, MS and Elah Renee Rickett of Anderson, MO, two sisters; Hazel Jean Stuhhlefield of Fulton, MO and Joyce Schutte of Columbia, MO, a brother; Jimmy W. Houf of Fulton, MO twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren as well as a host of other family and friends.
A memorial service for Mr. Herschel Houf will be held Monday, May 1, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Missouri.
