Jimmie E. Stever, age 82 of Joplin, Mo., passed away early Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
Jim was born on September 14, 1934, in Springfield, Mo., the son of Floyd and Thelma (Underhill) Stever. He was a Springfield area resident for most of his life before moving to Joplin. Jim worked as a history teacher for 30 years for Springfield Public Schools before retiring in 1994. Jim loved his family. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He also enjoyed flowers and tending his garden. Jim was an active volunteer in his retirement, passionately serving Crosslines, Meals-On-Wheels and Martin Luther School.
He married Carolyn Engleking in 1956, she survives. Additional survivors include two daughters; Susan Ketcham and husband Bradley of Storm Lake, Ia., Kathy Stever and husband Jack Geerlings of Ferndale, Mi., a son; Jim Stever and wife Margarite of Webb City, Mo., three sisters; Pat Alkier of Willard, Mo., Jeanie Merritt of Wamego, Ks., Becky Frayer of Kansas City, Mo., nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bill Stever, and two sisters, Wanda Minor and Sally Bolines.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Reverend Gregory Mech, will officiate. Burial will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
