Martha "Marti" Carr, age 70, a longtime Joplin resident, ended her battle with cancer on Sunday, March 12, 2017.
Martha E. McCarty was born in Versailles, Missouri, in 1946 and grew up in Rolla, Missouri. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rolla, Missouri. She met and married Robert Carr of Carthage, Missouri, in 1970.
She was a wife, mother, sister and friend. She worked for many years at Kassab and later went to work for Upstairs Boutique in downtown Joplin, retiring in 2016. She thoroughly enjoyed ladies retail and she always had an eye for fashion and what looked best on her customers. Marti was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and she enjoyed reading, game shows and trivia.
Marti is most remembered as stylish, optimistic, fiercely loyal and determined. Her glass was always half full. She will be missed by the many who knew her best. Marti was truly a lady.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Carr, of Joplin, Missouri; one daughter, Tara Pearson, and husband, Jay Pearson, of Springfield, Missouri; step-grandson, Tyler Pearson, of Joplin, Missouri; and her sister, Winnie Holm, of Omaha, Nebraska.
Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2017 at the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Pastor Clint Lambeth officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to Marti's favorite charities, the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross, and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
