Clarence Cyrus "Red" John, Jr, age 89, resident of Joplin, passed away March 15, 2017 at National Health Care.
He was born in Anderson, MO on May 12,1929 to the late Clarence Cyrus John and Bessie Marshall John. He married Betty Lea Mathews on December 22, 1946 in Columbus, KS. Together, they celebrated 70 years of marriage. She survives at the home.
Red is also survived by one son, Michael John, Joplin; two granddaughters, Hannah Nalley and husband Gregory, Nixa, Whitley John and life partner, Daniel Weller, Joplin; a brother Charles John and wife, Susan, state of Washington; a sister Geneva Wilson, Colorado and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Rue Paul, and one sister Josephine Conrey.
Red was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in World War II. Following his military service, he worked in the oil fields of Texas and Oklahoma and later worked as a truck driver for Fleming Foods.
A memorial visitation is planned for Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. The burial will follow in Southwest City Cemetery at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
