Minnie Owen, a cherished soul known for her loving nature, generous spirit, and selfless dedication to her family and community, was called to her heavenly home on January 3, 2026. Born on November 5, 1929, in the quaint town of Dillard, Missouri, Minnie was the beloved daughter of the late Frank E. Howdeshell and Annie E. Askins Howdeshell. Her journey on this earth concluded peacefully in Joplin, Missouri, surrounded by the love of her family
Minnie's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and the Christian values she held dear. She was a member of the First Community Church of Joplin, Missouri, where she cultivated friendships and served her Lord with gladness. Her commitment to her faith was evident in her actions and the way she lived her life each day.
After graduating from Dillard Public Schools, Minnie embarked on a fulfilling career with JC Penny, where she retired after many years of dedicated service. Her work ethic and warm demeanor left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of working alongside her.
Minnie's generosity extended beyond her family. She was a dedicated volunteer at Crosslines and St. John's Hospital (currently Mercy Hospital), where she offered comfort and care to those in need. Her selfless acts of kindness and her ability to listen and provide support were a beacon of light to many.
Family was the cornerstone of Minnie's life. On October 30, 1948, Minnie married Harry W. Owen in St. Louis, Missouri. After many wonderful years together, Harry passed away on October 15, 1996. She was a devoted mother to her sons, Dale Owen and his wife Fran of Joplin, and the late William Edward Owen.
Her love multiplied with the arrival of each grandchild: Shelly D. Williams (Scott), Steven D. Owen (Trina), Tyson E. Owen-Kubie (Meghan), James "Andy" Owen-Kubie, Ally Kubie, Zoe Purvis (Matthew), Marike Bongers. Minnie's legacy continued to blossom with the birth of her 11 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Each child was a precious gift, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Minnie was additionally preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation for Minnie will be Friday, January 9, 2026 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary with graveside service to follow at 11:30 a.m. at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Grandsons will be serving as pallbearers in her honor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to donor’s choice of First Community Church of Joplin, Crosslines Ministries or Ronald McDonald House of the Four States.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
