Larry Peeples

Larry Dean Peeples, age 82, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023 in Carthage, Missouri.

Larry was born March 6, 1941 in Modesto, CA, son of the late Floyd Peeples and Ethel Mae (Smith) Peeples. He grew up in California and attended Downey High School in Modesto. 

He served our country as a sailor in the Navy from 1959-1963. He then married Sandra L. Cardey on September 2, 1966 in Modesto. They were married 43 years. 








He was a longtime resident of California, working for years in security and custodial work. He lived at and retired from custodial work at the Drake Apartment Complex in Carthage. He loved playing games with family, especially Dominos. 

He was a talented singer and loved to entertain family and friends by playing the guitar and singing. He was also known as an entertainer in the gospel and country industry. He fronted for such entertainers, such as Chubby Checker, Ronnie Milsap, Chuck Berry and George Jones. He carried band names of; Peeples Country, Larry D & The Tear Drops and The Peeples Three. In his later years he entertained at a local residential care facility. He formerly attended Christ Point Church of Galena, KS.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra on January 17, 2010.








Survivors include his son, Joe Peeples and wife Gia of Spokane, WA, daughters, Kathy Whited and husband Philip of Carthage, Mo, Lanora Dunn and husband Jesse of Gilmer, TX, and Lorrie Hollatz and husband Al of Phoenix, AZ; 10 grandchildren, and several great and great-great-grandchildren. His sisters; Lavon Brown (Charlie), Diane Peeples; brothers Don Peeples (Linda), David Peeples (Ladonna)

Graveside service will be Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Gibson Cemetery, Neosho, MO with Rev. Philip Whited officiating and Micah Whited, Cody Haner, Stephen Yochum, Michael Benham, Troy Peeples, and Joe Peeples serving as pallbearers.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff of Carthage Health and Rehab and the staff of Good Shepherd Hospice for their outstanding love and care.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

  1. Larry was a great neighbor. He kept the Drake Hotel Apartments clean and tidy as our custodian. I considered him a friend and brother in Christ and he's been greatly missed. He no longer suffers and that being said, he's lived a full life. My condolences and prayers for the family and friends who knew him best.

  2. Larry was also my neighbor at the Drake Hotel. He worked so hard to keep our lovely, old building clean. He was a Christian man who loved all and loved to share his talents. Thoughts and prayers for all his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
