Mildred Burgess

Mildred Joyce Burgess, age 93, of Joplin, MO, passed away on Wednesday, May 10th, 2023 at Westgate at Wildwood Ranch.

Mildred was born on July 28th, 1929 in Vian, OK to the late union of Frank and Leona (Wells) Pack. She graduated from Warner High School in 1947 as Valedictorian, which she was very proud of. 

She married her high school sweetheart, James Franklin Burgess, on August 5th, 1947 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Together they were blessed with 52 years of marriage before his passing.

 

She worked as the clerk for the Oronogo Post Office and the bookkeeper for Burgess Repair Shop. Mildred worked tirelessly for her family and her church, preaching many inspiring sermons as the pastor of the Community of Christ Church in Webb City for over 5 years. She was also an elder of the Community of Christ Church in Joplin. She hosted two American Field Service students. She loved to travel and give to several charities.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three sons, Kelly Burgess, Larry Burgess, and Robin Burgess.







Mildred is survived by her five children, Sharon Burkhalter and her husband, Sam, Mike Burgess and his wife, Charlotte, Jeff Burgess and his wife, Carolyn, Brian Burgess and his wife, Tina, and Georges Keipes; two sisters, Alma Webster and Lois Lemaster; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 15th, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Julie Lay officiating. Interment to follow at Crocker Cemetery in Pittsburg, Kansas.
