Andy Kress

(From Derfelt Funeral Home)

Miles (“Andy”) Andrew Kress of Baxter Springs, KS, passed away from this life on February 17, 2024, due to a long illness. He was born in Baxter Springs, KS on April 21, 1961 to the union of Harry Wesley and Loretta Mae (Baker) Kress.

Andy owned and operated Andy’s Home Improvements as a carpenter, until he fell ill with heart complications in the late 90’s. He continued working in the construction industry on and off. Andy enjoyed staying busy, working on cars and various projects. One of his many talents was the ability of creating unique furniture pieces out of just about anything.

Andy never met a stranger. He was known for his jokes, humor, and his onery behavior. Up until the day he passed, he was sharing the most absurd stories making everyone in the room laugh. He found healing in poetry and art and shared that gift with everyone too.

Andy’s heart was enormous, full of love, and people were drawn to it. Through his struggles, one thing remained; he loved everyone genuinely. He especially cherished his daughters. He enjoyed spending quality time with them and fishing with his grandkids. He had a special bond with everyone in his family and he made his time with each of them special, especially in his last years.

Andy is preceded in death by both of his parents; a sister, Janice Nellums; and two brothers, Eric “Teddy” Kress, and Ronald Kress.

Survivors include 6 daughters: Becky (Morris) Williams of Miami, OK; ReGenia Brown of Joplin, MO; Lorraine (Jeffery) Sargent of Baxter Springs, KS; Adrienne’ (Cody) Marney of Webb City, MO; Meryl (Tyrell) Brown of Carl Junction, MO; and Megan Kress of Baxter Springs, KS; two sisters, Pam (Tom) Faneole, and Barbara Kress; 4 brothers, John (Genii) Kress, Wesley (Linda) Kress, Terryl Kress, and Steven Kress; one ex wife, Kathleen (Ferron) Krokroskia; 11 grandchildren, Garrett, Adrienne’, Keely, Miley, Christianna, Sawyer, William, Bennett, Christian, Baker, & Conner; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
