John Richards

Robert John Richards, 67, passed away on February 18, 2024, at his home in Columbus, KS.

John was born on May 13, 1956 in Columbus, KS, to Robert and Elvera (Smith) Richards.

John was a graduate from CUHS in 1974 and went on to earn his double bachelor's degree in computer science and math from Pittsburg State University in 1978. He started his career as a Computer Analyst and worked for Ace Electric, Sunbeam in Neosho and CFI where he later retired.

On February 18, 1984 he married Mary Albertson in Columbus, KS at the First Baptist Church.

John was an active member of the community; he cherished gardening, movies, watching the Kansas City Chiefs, cheering on the Royals, exploring new destinations, hunting ducks, golfing, and fishing. He was a skilled woodworker.

His commitment extended to serving as a dedicated deacon, trustee and Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church in Columbus.

John is survived by his wife, Mary Richards of the home, his daughter Kelsie Richards of Columbus, KS and her partner Becca Nobles-Jackson with their children Madisyn and Maleigha, also his son Robert Andrew Richards and spouse Makenzie of Springfield, MO, and their daughter Nora, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Kristie Richards.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Thursday, February 22, 2024 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus. Burial will follow at the Hosey Hill Cemetery in Weir, KS.

Family will receive friends from 10-11 am prior to the service at the funeral home.
