(From Brenner Mortuary)Jean Barber passed away November 11, 2024. She was born March 19, 1920 and grew up in Altamont, Kansas, one of 5 children born to George Elmer Martin and Irene Sheldon Martin. Jean met Jack Barber while attending Pittsburg State Teacher College receiving her degree in Business Education in May, 1943.
Jack enlisted in the Army Air Corps during WW11 and they married June 5, 1943 while Jack was stationed at Ft. Riley before he was sent to the European Theatre. During their 60 year marriage they lived in Columbus, moved to Joplin, Missouri in 1958, then in 1962 they moved to Pittsburg to enjoy their remaining years.
Jean is survived by her sons and their spouses Martin and Susie Boldrini, John and Sally, David and Teresa, Pete and Kim, 8 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
Jean was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church. She volunteered at Wesley House, with the Lakeside Reading Program, and delivered Meals on Wheels. Jean and Jack joined the Crestwood Country Club in 1962 where she served on the board as well as held offices in the Crestwood Women's Golf Association. Jean's passion for golf never wavered, she played until she was 96. Jean was a member of PEO Chapter CP since 1963 and a Golden Girl.
Her family would like to thank Loving Care Agency for the care they provided for the past 2 years as their care enabled our family to keep her at home until the last few months. We also want to thank Harry Hynes Hospice for their support and assistance.
Visitation will be at 10:00 am with the funeral at 11:00 on November 29,2024 at
the First United Methodist Church. Private Family Burial will be later at the Highland Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations in Jean's name could be made to Wesley House and/or Harry Hynes Hospice. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
