Pennie Burt

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Pennie Sue (Sloan) Burt, 63, of Joplin, MO, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2024, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family, after bravely facing a diagnosis of glioblastoma in July 2023.

Born on February 8, 1961, in Albuquerque, NM, Pennie spent most of her life in Joplin, a place she cherished and called home.

Pennie was a beacon of kindness and joy, with a twinkle-eyed laugh and a spirit of fairness that touched everyone she met. She joined Charles Burt Realtors at just 18, where she met her beloved husband, Charles Allyn Burt. Together, they shared over 30 years, filled with hard work, world travels, and unforgettable gatherings for family, friends, and neighbors. Those who joined these gatherings will always remember the warmth and laughter she brought to every occasion, crafting memories with her signature games and loving, playful spirit.

A nurturing soul, Pennie prided herself on taking care of the people she held close. Though her only biological daughter was Molly Mae Kwas, she embraced many as her “kids” or family, always offering a listening ear, unwavering support, and sometimes a little tough love. Her guidance and love will forever echo in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Pennie is survived by her loving husband, Charles Allyn Burt; her cherished daughter, Molly Mae Kwas, and son-in-law, Michael; her stepdaughters, Jennifer Burt, Jill Burt, and her husband Carey, and Autumn Easter, and her husband Eric; her grandchildren, Maeve, Lucy, Piper, Avery, Daniel, Abby, and Jessica; her niece, Stephanie Kendall, and her husband Alex; her brother-in-law, Tim Green, and his partner Sadonna; her nephew, Tim Green, and his partner Meredith; and her great-nieces and nephews, Emily, Landon, Alexandria, Hunter, Blake, Jase, and Beau, along with countless other family members and dear friends.

She joins her mother, Edith Martin; stepfather, Richard Martin; and sister, Roxanne Green-Wickes, in eternal peace.

A service celebrating Pennie’s life will be held at Mason-Woodard Mortuary at 3:00 pm on Monday, November 11, 2024. The family will receive friends and visitors at 2:00 pm prior to the service.

Arrangements under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory – Joplin, Missouri.
