(From Knell Mortuary)Joe Allan Butler, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, at the age of 62 in Carthage, Missouri. Born on December 28, 1962, in Springfield, Missouri, the son of the late Billie and Goldie (Butler) Shields, Joe's warm smile and generous spirit were a gift to all who knew him.
Joe was a proud graduate of Carthage High School, class of 1981, where he was known for his friendly demeanor and his willingness to lend a hand. After graduation, Joe channeled his love for the outdoors into a fulfilling career in lawncare.
Beyond his professional life, Joe was deeply involved in his community. He founded a craft group at the local nursing center, bringing joy and creativity to the residents. His passion for helping others extended to his volunteer work with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, where he contributed countless hours to support those in need.
Joe's interests were as warm and inviting as his personality. An avid crocheter, his crafts were not only a testament to his skill but also a reflection of his kind heart, as he often gifted his creations to friends and family. Joe never met a stranger, a testament to his open and engaging nature. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and make them feel like the most important person in the world. He had a great sense of humor and was a real jokester, loved watching wrestling but most of all was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan.
Those who knew Joe best would describe him as the epitome of friendliness and kindness. His ability to connect with people was unparalleled, and his presence could light up a room. Joe's legacy of warmth and generosity will live on through the many lives he touched.
Joe is survived by his loving brothers, Tim Butler and his wife Nerissa of Springfield, Missouri, and Danny Shields and his wife Cathy of Carthage, Missouri. He will also be fondly remembered by his niece and nephew, Sabrina and Daniel Goldman, along with a community of friends who were like family to him.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Saturday September 20, 2025 at Knell Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Reeds Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 pm to service time at Knell Mortuary. The family suggests contributions to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in care of Knell Mortuary.
