(From Simpson Funeral Home)It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a truly exceptional woman, Rebecca Annette Shirley, fondly known as Becky, and Sweetheart who gracefully departed from our world on December 9, 2025. Born in Fayetteville, NC, on February 1, 1941, to Orvil and Myron Sherman, Rebecca lived a life that was nothing short of extraordinary.
Rebecca was a beacon of compassion and love, often lighting up any room she entered with her warm presence and thoughtful demeanor. She was the epitome of a supportive wife and mother, and her devotion to her husband, Dan, and their beautiful girls was unparalleled. Her love extended beyond her immediate family to her cherished poodles, who she treated with the same tenderness and affection. Rebecca was a woman of simple pleasures, finding joy in homemaking, collecting clocks, and bowling. Her weekends were often spent scouring yard sales for hidden treasures, and every family vacation was commemorated with a unique souvenir. Her favorite dining spot was the Golden Corral, a place where many cherished family memories were made.

In the words of Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Rebecca embodied this sentiment throughout her life. She made every person she encountered feel seen, heard, and loved, and her legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched. She is survived by her loving husband, Daniel Shirley; niece Donna Lewis; nephew Wade Shirley; grandkids Joshua Weeks, Patrick Casey and many more nieces and nephews. Becky preceded in death by her parents, Orvil and Myron Sherman; daughters, Debra Shirley and Janet Shirley.
Becky came from a small town having experienced very little until she met Dan. Dan showed her the world and provided the family with the understanding of how a princess should live. She was a light that shone bright when she was with he prince charming, Dan. Becky lived a life defined by the word princess.
