Gary Lee Gibson, age 25, Joplin, passed away at 10:39 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2015 from injuries he sustained in a one vehicle accident West of Joplin.
Gary was born July 13, 1990 in Las Vegas, Nevada and had lived in Riverton for most of his life.
He was a 2008 graduate of Riverton High School, where he was active in sports, especially football. Gary was currently working at Big R's BBQ in Joplin and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving for two years in Okinawa, Japan. Gary loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and swimming. He will be missed greatly.
Survivors include his mother, Tammy Gibson, Joplin; father, William Pennington, Riverton, Kansas; sister, Barbara Gibson, Joplin; one brother, Andrew Pennington, Joplin; maternal grandfather, Gary Chazell, Joplin; and paternal grandfather, David Pennington, Riverton, Kansas.
Services are planned for Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Jeff Martin will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service. Following the service, Gary will be taken for cremation and be buried in the family plot in Greenlawn Cemetery, Cherokee County, Kansas.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
