Jack K. Lane, 90, of Pittsburg, passed away at 9:26 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2015 at Via Christi Hospital.
He was born January 31, 1925 at rural Cherokee, KS, to Oral T. and Anna (Klier) Lane. He graduated from West Mineral High School in 1941. On December 24, 1950, he was united in marriage to Ruth Benson at her parents' house in Cherokee. She survives at the home. Jack was an electrician and worked for several construction companies. He retired from the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant. Membership was held in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 95 of Joplin, MO for 62 years. He served on the Cherokee Grade School Board of Education; USD 247 Southeast Board of Education; City of Cherokee Councilman; City of Cherokee Mayor; Cherokee Little League, where he served as a manager, treasurer and president; and served on the West Mineral High School Reunion Committee.
In addition to his wife Ruth, he is survived by two sons Jack Lane, of Pittsburg, KS, and Rob Lane and his wife, Linda of Joplin, MO; two brothers, Lyman Lane of Lexington, N.C. and Charles Lane and his wife Helen of Rose Hill, KS; two sisters, Shirley Sybert of Pittsburg and Joann Biancarelli of Cherokee, KS; and three grandsons, Ryan Lane, Andy Lane and Tanner Lane. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Carl Lane and Billy Trumble Lane.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday (September 18) at the Brenner Mortuary with Pastor Larry Davolt officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherokee City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday (September 17) at the Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 11 a.m. The family suggests memorials to the Cherokee Little League.
