Wilma Leona Owens passed from this life September 9, 2015. She was born September 13, 1925 to Mason Oliver and Opal Harmon, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Diamond High School in 1943. Wilma studied cosmetology, worked in a local beauty shop, and married Ted C. Owens in February 1944 in Kansas when he was in the Army Air Corps. He preceded her in death in 2012.
Wilma and Ted had five daughters, all of whom survive: Linda (Jerry) Jones; Brenda (Bill) Hickox; Marsha James; Geneva (Garry) Peters; Teresa Jane (Michael) Moss. They have 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Wilma had nine siblings and is survived by: a brother, Clifford (Helen) Harmon; sisters, Anna Mason: Delores (Robert) Schoen; Joan Harmon. Preceding her in death are: sisters, Jean Turner; Melba Harmon; Zuella Williams; and Juanita Turner; a brother, Everett Harmon, and one infant grandson.
Wilma is a past member of Bethany Presbyterian Church and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Joplin. She was active in several capacities in both churches when she was physically able.
Wilma was a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post in Joplin and held various offices with the American Legion Auxiliary Post 332 in Webb City. She volunteered at Crosslines, Freeman Hospital, and enjoyed her involvement with Visions Unlimited. She and her husband were involved with 4-H in Newton County and started a new club in the Greenwood Community in 1960 called the Ridgeway 4-H Club.
Wilma enjoyed many hobbies, especially making beautiful, delicious cakes for her family, friends, special events, and weddings. She loved planning and caring for her flower beds. When daughters were young, she created patterns and made their clothes. She crocheted many lovely items and loved to quilt. She especially loved and adored all babies.
Wilma was a God-fearing and God-loving, hard-working woman. She did what she could to help anyone who needed help. She was greatly loved and admired and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Parker Chapel. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Parker Mortuary.
