Susan Kay Robertson Whitney, age 58 of Joplin, passed away following surgery at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Freeman West Hospital after a long battle with heart disease.
Born June 29, 1957 in Denver, CO, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Robertson and Tommie Spears Robertson and had lived in the Joplin and Miami, OK areas the past 21 years. Susan graduated from high school in Thornton, CO and received her Registered Nurse credentials through Northeastern Oklahoma A & M College at Miami. She worked at Freeman Health Systems, Willow Crest Hospital in Miami, Spring River Christian Village and did Geriatric Care for several area health care facilities.
Beyond her working life, her main focus was her family as she was everyone's rock. People recognized her as warm and open hearted, always willing to help as a care-giver, and was known as "Mom" to many of her children's friends through the years.
On August 11, 1979 she married Ray Alan Whitney in Colorado. He survives.
Additional survivors include five children, Jethro Ferguson of Craig, CO, Angelic Kubic of Joplin, Ray Alan Whitney, II and wife Letha of Miami, OK, Tommy James Whitney of Joplin, Samantha Whitney and Justin Vaughn of Joplin; her mother, Tommie Robertson of Craig; two sisters, Jean Robertson of Craig, Cindy Ober and husband Tim of Chadron, NE: twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Raedene Robertson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 5th at 4:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel with Rick Bronson officiating, after which, the family will receive friends at the home of her daughter. Cremation will follow under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Parker Mortuary to help the family with expenses.
