Mr. Billy Joe Gideon, 81, of Webb City, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday morning, November 4, 2017, in the comfort of his residence after a recent battle with cancer.
Billy entered this life on November 16, 1935, in Anderson, Missouri, the youngest of ten children born to the late William Andrew and Florence (Russell) Gideon. He was raised and attended school in Anderson. On October 26, 1956, in Neosho, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Grace Scott and to this union three children were born. He was employed by Eagle Picher in Joplin, Missouri for twenty years. He retired in 1998 from the Department of Defense. He was a member of the Blendville Christian Church in Joplin and the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and eight siblings.
Billy is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Grace Gideon of the home; three children, Dennis W. Gideon and wife, Glinda, of Augusta, Kansas, Janice Runion and husband, Larry, of Webb City, Missouri and Steven R. Gideon and wife, Mary, of Altamonte Springs, Florida; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Elmer Gideon and wife, Dottie, of Cleveland, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Graveside services for Mr. Gideon are 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 9, 2017 at the Tracy Cemetery in Anderson, Missouri, with Pastor Luke Cole officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6-7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the food pantry of Blendville Christian Church, c/o the mortuary. On-line condolences may be sent to the family through www.thornhilldillon.com.
