(From Paul Thomas Funeral Home)Steven Joseph Smith age 77 of Joplin, Missouri, passed away, Monday, June 9, 2025 at his home. He was born on October 4, 1947 in Weir, Kansas, the son of Lawrence Smith & Donna Marie Larson.
Steven was a generous, God-fearing, and hardworking man whose quiet strength and steady values left a lasting impression on those around him. Known for his constant reminder to “say your prayers,” his deep faith was a guiding force throughout his life. Steven worked as a coal miner for 51 years, dedicating himself fully to his work as a steadfast provider. He found joy and purpose in working on his pulling tractors and attending tractor pulls, where his passion and craftsmanship truly shined.
Steven was survived in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Nancy Jane Smith. He is also survived by his children: Kelly Ann Smith, Melissa Lea Smith, and Kerri Jayne Castleberry. He was a proud grandfather to Taylor Nikole Sigala, Madison Marie Fanning, Kolten Ross Fanning, Alyssa Eileen Luke, Christopher Michael DeLuna, Arik Keath Luke, and Alijah Robert Peters. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
