(From Parker Mortuary)Annie Nicolle Strickling, age 28, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri. Born on December 13, 1997, in Joplin, Annie's vibrant spirit and infectious smile were a precious gift to all who knew her.
Raised in the town where she was born, Annie was a proud graduate of Joplin High School, Class of 2016. Her passion for learning and her desire to inspire others led her to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Education from Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) in Joplin. Annie's dedication to her studies was matched only by her commitment to the children she taught.
Annie's professional journey as an educator began in the Neosho School District, where she first shared her love of learning as a First-Grade teacher at Carver Elementary. Her creativity and enthusiasm for teaching were unmistakable, and she quickly became a cherished member of the school community. After two years, Annie brought her talents to Rise Elementary, where she served as the Art teacher. There, she nurtured the artistic abilities of her students, encouraging them to express themselves and explore the world through their creativity.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Annie was known for her artistic talents, which she often used to brighten the lives of those around her. She was a lover of animals, swimming and was an avid reader. Shopping was another of her favorite pastimes, a way for her to connect with friends and indulge in the latest trends and her singing voice was a beautiful addition to any gathering. Annie lived her life with an open heart, never meeting a stranger and always ready to make a new friend.
She is survived by her parents, Nikki and Brandon Purcell of Diamond, Missouri and Matthew Ganes of Webb City, Missouri; her maternal grandparents, Mike and Linda Strickling of Joplin, Missouri; paternal grandmothers, Nancy Patterson and Dana Purcell both of Joplin, Missouri; as well as a host of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Eric Ganes. Annie's memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of her family, friends, and the many students whose lives she touched with her kindness and passion for teaching.
Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2026 at First Baptist Church in Webb City, Missouri with Pastor Colleen Carroll officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Cemetery in Purcell, Missouri. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Brian Strickling, Jace Strickling, Keith Holloway, Kurt Haase and Zach Kennedy. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 noon on Friday at the church. Memorials are being directed to the Joplin Humane Society c/o the mortuary. Services are under the care of Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.

She was such a sweetheart. She will be missed by so many.
ReplyDeleteWhile I believe I have seen the cause of death, information on the circumstances of her passing have been sparse, to say the least. Am I missing a news story somewhere or is it really that tight-lipped?
