Born November 5, 1985 in Joplin, she lived in Joplin most of her lifetime. A talented cook, she maintained an open-door policy inviting many family and friends to share meals, particularly on holidays. Some of her character traits included her humor, honesty and being a great listener. She enjoyed helping others and her life has impacted countless friends and acquaintances.

On August 8, 2008 she married Stephen G. Gutierrez. He survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Stephen Izaius Gutierrez, age 8, Kingston Charles Gutierrez, age 5; an infant daughter, Amari Divine Gutierrez, age 7-weeks; her mother, Junell Henson of Joplin; maternal grandfather, Charles Henson, maternal grandmother, Mary Henson (who passed away on Thursday of this week); mother-in-law, Stephanie Gutierrez of Hollis, OK; many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.

Alissa was a vibrant, creative adventurous soul who wanted to experience the depth of what life had to offer. As a homemaker, she presented her own unique style with grace and exuberance. Her children were molded by her beliefs in goodness, kindness and scholarly instruction. They were her love and inspiration. Her husband, Stephen, was the love of her life and her very best friend. Her love, joy and eagerness to be a part of everything was a shining star. Her love for her mother was unending. In the short 28 years they had together, they formed a bond that will endure forever. Alissa leaves behind family and friends who will miss her sweet smile and determined disposition.

A memorial service celebrating Alissa’s life will be held 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Parker Chapel, after which, the family will receive friends. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alissa Henson Gutierrez Children’s Fund in care of the mortuary.
