Bernetta Jean Griffitt, age 80, of Lamar, MO passed Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Freeman Hospital-West.
Bernetta was born February 10, 1934, at Marion, KS to Herbert Schick and Claira (Martin) Schick. On November 4, 1950, she married John Jr. Griffitt in Jackson County, MO and together they raised three children. She had worked in the Camera Department at Gill’s Studio in Lenexa, KS, and for Oxford Healthcare for 15 years then as a private caregiver for 15 years. After living away, she moved back to Lamar, MO in 1989.
She leaves behind one son, Rick & Kathy Griffitt, Lamar, MO; two daughters, Carol & Phil Nash, Kansas City, KS and Linda & Jim Nemeth, Tonganoxie, KS; her best friend of 18 years, Gene Compton; two brothers, Harlen & Joan Schick, Carterville, MO and Gary & Susie Schick, Joplin, MO; two sisters, Violet Houdyshell, Joplin, and Bea Allen, Lamar, MO; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Bernetta was preceded in death by her husband, John Jr. Griffitt; three brothers, Vern Schick, Jim Schick, and Bob Schick; two sisters, Elaine Tavares, and an infant sister Nancy Schick.
Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Daniel Funeral Home with burial to follow at Kiley Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
