Genevive Hicks

Genevieve Lucille Ziegler West Hicks, age 96, of Joplin, Mo. went on to her heavenly reward at 5:15 a.m. Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Mercy Hospital Joplin. Genevieve was born August 15, 1917 in Dixon, Mo to robert and Grace Ziegler. She grew up on a farm near Dixon. She married Ray E. West on February 17, 1937. they pastored churches across Mo., Ks., and Il. She worked faithfully beside Bro. West for many years and was active in the Ladies Missionary Society /WCG. He preceded her in death in 1965. She married Ernest R. Hicks in 1968 and they were very active church leaders in the Coffeyville, Ks. Church of God. He preceded her in death. She was a member of the Southside Church of God in Joplin and served as an Elder.

She will be sadly missed by family and friends for her kindness,her loving heart, the wonderful handmade gifts, many prayers, and the way she always made everyone feel so special and loved.

She is survived by one son, Stephen West and wife Diana, Rancho Santa Margarita, Ca., three daughters, Erma Johnson and husband John, Joplin, Mo., dorothy Heiney and husband Harold, and Ruth Pope and husband Warren, all of Collinsville, Il., one step daughter, Gladys Hatfield, Russell, Ks., one brother, Harold Ziegler and wife Fern, St. Charles, Mo., 9 grandchildren; Wayne Johnson (Krista), Teresa Martin (John), David Johnson (Chris), Shelley Miller (Rodney), Brian Pope (Debbie), Mark Heiney (DeAnn), Kim Easley, Ruth Green (Jonathan), and Julie Gibson (Jonathan)., 25 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Southside Church of God with Rev. Bille Gibson officiating. Graveside services will be at 4:00 p.m. Thursday at the Dixon, Mo. cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to the Church of God radio program, (Christian broadcasting Hope), or Mercy Hospice in care of the Mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
