Ronald D. ‘Ronnie’ Johnston, age 74, Neck City, passed away at 2:25 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Webb City Health and Rehabilitation Center after an illness.
Ronnie was born March 8, 1940 in Joplin to the late Donald Johnston and Selma Shupp Johnston and had lived in the area all of his life.
He worked as a technician for the Joplin Water Treatment Plant for several years. In his youth, Ronnie was active in baseball and earned the nickname, ‘Stretch’, for his ability to make plays at first base.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; a son, Tobby Johnston; one brother, Jesse Johnston; and his stepfather, Frank Carlisle.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Johnston, Joplin, Paul Johnston, Neck City; siblings, Donald Johnston, Marblemount, Washington, Janice Lashmet, Neck City, Susan Dorris, Neck City; grandchildren, Joshua, Jake, Grace; and great grandchildren, Noah, Raine, Samuel, Brianna and Bryce.
A graveside committal of ashes is planned for Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Friends Cemetery, Purcell.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
