Dennis Franklin Schartz, 63, of Pittsburg, passed away at 1:40 p.m., Saturday, October 10, 2015, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.
He was born May 14, 1952, at Pittsburg, KS, the son of William and Emma (Bush) Schartz. Mr. Schartz served in the United States Navy during Vietnam. He served from July of 1970 to July of 1974, when he was Honorably Discharged. He was a steel fabricator at Liebherr at Baxter Springs. He also worked for McNally's, Pepsi and Weisda.
Mr. Schartz is survived by his life partner, Janice L. Souther of the home, two step-daughters, Amanda (Jake) Haskew of Vienna, Austria, and Stacey Day of Pittsburg, four brothers, Richard Schartz of Pittsburg, Gene (Pat) Schartz of Neosho, MO, Mickey (Elaine) Schartz of Pittsburg, and twin brother, Danny (Lee) Schartz of Pittsburg, one sister, Melissa (Kim) Lawrence of Scammon, KS, and four grandchildren Abby and Katy Haskew and Taylor and Madison Day, several nieces and nephews and his beloved pets, Tia, Duke and Jack. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Tim Schartz, one sister, Nancy Schartz and two sister-in-laws, Jody Schartz and Penny Schartz and his cat, Fluffy.
A service for Mr. Schartz is set for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 15, 2015, at the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, where Pastor Mark Lehman will conduct the service. Burial will follow in the Crocker Cemetery, Pittsburg, where the Benjamin Fuller American Legion of Pittsburg will provide the flag folding ceremony. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Brenner Mortuary. Friends may call at the funeral home to sign the register book after 2:00 p.m., Wednesday. The family suggests memorials to the SEK Humane Society. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
