Marvin (Verne) Milam, age 93 of Carl Junction, MO, passed away at 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at his home following a short battle with cancer.
Born November 23, 1921 in Council Bluffs, IA, he was the son of the late Lawson Milam and Ella Alice Cooper Milam and had lived in the Joplin area since 1983. Verne owned and operated a greenhouse and florist and, along with his wife, owned and operated the King's Inn Motel in Chickasha, the Tropicana Motel in Joplin and another motel in Vinita, OK. A U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II, he served in the Normandy landing.
Verne was an excellent bowler and avid golfer, a Life Master bridge player and a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shrine Temple.
He was preceded in death by three wives, Geraldine O'Brien Milam, Doris Llewelan Milam and Veta Nadine Milam.
Survivors include a son, Dan Milam of Fort Worth, TX; a daughter, Kathleen Mary Milam of Santa Monica, CA; a stepdaughter, Karla Berliew of Carl Junction; a brother, Blaine Glover Milam of Bisbee, AZ; six grandchildren, Patricia Rodgers, Tonya Arnold, Melanie Irwin, Michael Milam, Tony Hartnett and Robin Richardson; 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
