Sharon B. Estes, age 73, a lifelong resident of Joplin, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 9, 2015, with her family by her side.
Sharon was born on July 14, 1942, to Edythe (Widders) and Burley Kirby. On June 16, 1962, Sharon married the love of her life, James O. Estes, and they remained married until his death in 1991. She never remarried, instead spending the rest of her life devoted to family and friends.
Sharon was a proud and loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt, and friend to many. She loved gardening, collecting “junk,” reading, and most of all, spending time with her family. Sharon spent her lifetime caring for others. She was a mom for those who didn’t have one, and she was a friend for those who needed one. Sharon loved animals, and this was evident by the many homeless cats and dogs she took in and gave second chances to.
Survivors include her three daughters, Teresa Estes and her husband, Carsten Nyhues, of Joplin, Shanna Estes of Joplin, Destiny Estes Plunkett of Joplin, lifelong friend, Larry Karl Brown of Kansas City, and the light of her life, granddaughter Rachel Plunkett of Joplin.
Sharon touched many lives with her kindness, love, compassion, and honesty. Her memory will remain in all our hearts until we meet again.
A memorial celebration of Sharon’s life and legacy will be held on October 17, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, 602 S. Byers, Joplin, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Faithful Friends Animal Advocates (FFAA). Online donations may be made at ffaa.neosho.org, or mailed to PO Box 863 Neosho, MO 64850.
