Clay Brown

Clay Oather Brown, age 19, Oronogo, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023 at home after a sudden illness.

Clay was born April 29, 2003 in Wichita, Kansas, and grew up in Jasper, Missouri where he graduated from Jasper High School. He has been working for Crossland Construction since graduation.

Clay was always happiest when he was outdoors. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a very talented woodworker. 








Clay was an active member of Christ the King Presbyterian Church in Joplin where he was always eager to serve however he could. He was passionate about serving the church’s ministry through overseeing the Sunday PowerPoint, setting up for church events, and attending Wednesday night activities. Clay also had the opportunity to enjoy many adventures and great times with his girlfriend, Josie Yardley.

Clay was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles R. Brown.

Survivors include his parents, Dave and Ginger (Mayfield) Brown of Oronogo; brothers, Levi Brown and wife Anna Kate of Ann Arbor, MI, and Caleb Brown of Joplin; grandparents, Oather Mayfield and wife Kathi (Brown) of Oronogo, Sandra Bendon and husband Joe of Carterville, MO; several extended family and friends.








Funeral service will be Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ the King Presbyterian Church located at 1930 S. Virginia Ave in Joplin (shared building with Bethany Presbyterian). Rev. Levi Bakerink will be officiating. Interment will follow in Osborne Memorial Cemetery with Levi Brown, Caleb Brown, Alex Woods, Philip Barnett, Benjamin Barnett, and Cody Chapman serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
