(From Ozark Memorial Park Crematory)Velma L. Quin (Russow) 79 of Joplin Missouri, passed away on May 9, 2024. Velma was born to Clay Russow and Margurette (Russow) Bass in Gravette AR. Velma graduated from Duenweg High School in 1962 as Valedictorian of her class.
Velma held many jobs in her lifetime. She was Human Resource Director of Oak Hill Hospital, Benefits Coordinator at St. John’s Hospital and she also worked at Holiday Inn in Human Resources, where she met her husband Robert (Bob) Quin.
Rumor has it that after Velma met Bob, his resume somehow made its way to the top of the pile of applicants, and he was hired as Maintenance Director. They were married in March of 2000. She started a successful cleaning business in 2000, Dust-Busters, and ran it for over 23 years, retiring in February of 2024.
Velma loved to be busy. She grew up on a farm and was used to demanding work. She played baseball and basketball with her brothers and was so good she even played on the boys’ team from time to time. She taught herself woodworking and made everything from birdhouses to pieces of furniture. She loved a good yard sale or flea market and had a rule for herself for buying things: “Bring one thing in and take one thing out.” She enjoyed yardwork and planting flowers, and Velma was excited to see the peonies bloom this spring in her backyard. She was an accomplished cook and even performed a cooking demonstration for her daughter’s school after winning a cooking contest and was featured in an article in the Joplin Globe.
Velma had a kind and caring nature and a wonderful sense of humor, which meant she had many friends and kept those friendships throughout her life with classmates and co-workers. She was always available to help with any need; big or small. She was a member of the Risen Ranch Cowboy Church and PEO of Monett MO and had aided in many of the Duenweg Class Reunions and the historian and organizer of the Russow Family Reunions.
Velma was preceded in death by her mother and father and brother George Russow. She is survived by her loving husband Robert (Bob) Quin of Joplin MO; her brother David Russow and wife Connie of Joplin MO; her sister Helen Johnson and husband Danny of Joplin MO; her daughter Holly and husband Duane Hukill of Joplin MO; daughter Alisa Mathis of Joplin MO; daughter Leah and husband Dennis Camp of Monett MO; stepchildren Daniel Quin of Fayetteville, AR; Sarabeth and husband Chad Picard of Port Orchard, WA and Caleb Quin and girlfriend Katrin of Kaiserslautern Germany.
Velma is also survived by additional family members; brother-in- law David Quin and wife Sheri of Springdale AR; Deborah Bellante of Springdale AR; Cathy Battalia and Steve Albertson of Bella Vista AR; Cindy and Jim Roberts of Bella Vista AR. And her grandchildren Josh Weber and Justin Weber; Stefan Hukill; Velshi Mathis; Alice Camp, Sadie Camp and EJ Camp; as well as her step grandchildren; Adia Quin, Gabriel Picard, Malachi Picard, Nathaniel Picard, Naomi Picard, Joshua Picard, Benjamin Picard, and Maja Urbanczyk; and great grandchildren; Reign Smith, Keiran Smith, Raigen Moore, and Keller Hukill; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members and close friends.
The family would like to thank Charlottes Angels, Compassus Hospice Care and The Arbors at Silver Creek for their excellent care during the last few weeks of Velma’s life.

Per her wishes there will be a Celebration of Life to be held on Friday May 17, 2024, from 3 pm to 5 pm at Granny Shaffer’s Restaurant Banquet Center (behind the restaurant) 2728 N. Rangeline Road, Joplin MO.
This will be a come and go event and will be open to family and friends that knew and loved her.
