(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Albert C. Long, age 96 of Joplin, MO., passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024 surrounded by his family.
Albert was born on February 7, 1928, in Jane, MO., the son of Willard and Pearl (Pasley) Long. He has been a lifetime area resident. Albert graduated from Whiterock High School in Jane in 1946.
He married Loraine Bixler in 1951.
Albert proudly served his country as part of the U.S. Air Force for 8 years, including bases in Greenland, Newfoundland, Guam and Azores. Following his service, Albert worked for the U.S. Government as a Civil Service Inspector at Rocketdyne, formerly Teledyne, in Neosho, MO., testing rocket engines. Having grown up on a farm, he also worked his own 80 acre farm with beef cattle & hay.
After his retirement in 1985, he enjoyed woodworking, single-handedly building his own workshop. Albert & Loraine also spent many years RV-ing around the country, including Alaska twice. Albert was a long-time member of Park Plaza Christian Church.
Albert was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Loraine Bixler, his parents and one brother, Royce Long.

Survivors include three daughters; Lynda Hoover and husband Bill of Joplin, Anita Brown and husband Bert of Purdy, MO., Phyllis Mestas and husband Bobby also of Purdy, his sister and best friend; Helen Parker of Springfield, MO., six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2024 at Union Cemetery near Stella, MO.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
