(From Nichols-Stephens Funeral Home)Joe C. Brice, age 89, long time resident of the Whitewater area of Jay, OK, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, MO.
Joe was born on July 14, 1934, to John and Cleora (Seaborne) Brice on his family farm that was considered Southwest City, MO, at the time. He was a proud graduate of Grove High School, Class of 1952.
On May 12, 1956, Joe married the love of his life, Mary Goss in Miami, Ok and the couple made their home in Wichita, Ks, where he went to work for Cessna Aircraft.
In 1970, Joe and his family returned to their homestead on Whitewater. He was a dedicated and hardworking individual who wore many hats throughout his life. He served as a school bus driver for Grove Public School and later worked for Delaware County, where he eventually retired. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Joe was a skilled farmer and cattleman, known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his craft.
One of Joe's proudest achievements was assisting with the construction of the Butler Fire Station, a testament to his commitment to serving his community. In his free time, Joe enjoyed supporting the Grove Ridgerunner Football team.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Left to cherish his memory, wife of 68 years, Mary Brice, son, Tommy Brice (Twana), all of Jay, granddaughter Stacy Brice and grandson, Scotty Brice (Casey), and 3 great grandchildren, Zachary, Holly and Katie and 2 sisters.
Visitation will be from 5-7pm Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Nichols-Stephens Funeral Service.
Funeral services will be at 2pm Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Nichols-Stephens Funeral Chapel. Burial to follow at Southwest City Cemetery.
