Ila Dee King, age 85, of Joplin, Mo., went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at her home surrounded by family.
She was born on April 15, 1931 at Dodge City, Ks., the daughter of the late Harry and Mary LaVina “Palmer” Hazell.
She married Richard H. King on May 9, 1954 in Branson, Mo., he preceded her in death on January 9, 2016. Together they raised a family of five children. She worked in housekeeping in nursing homes for 20 years in Hutchinson, Ks and for 40 years at local nursing homes. She was a member of Peace Tabernacle, enjoyed gardening and reading her Bible. Ila is survived by two sons: John King and his wife Kate, of South Port, N.C. and James King and wife Yong Sun of Chula Vista, CA; three daughters: Shirley Grubbs of Hutchinson, Ks, Mary Magazine of Joplin, Mo and Sharon Smith and husband Wayne of Quapaw, Ok, seven sisters: Lois Jones, Pauline Moran, Iva Arndt, Geraldine “Jean” Parker, Arlathine “Betty” Stewart, Mary Ward, and Dottie Umphries; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Christopher Edwin Lee King, seven brothers: Vernon Hazell, Donald Hazell, Dwight Hazell, Alva Hazell, Edward Hazell, Ian Hazell and Thornton Hazell; and three sisters; Sylvia “Mugs” Edens, Evelyn Head and Phyllis Hazell.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday May 9, 2016 at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory with Pastor Franklin Buchanan II and Bishop Franklin Buchanan I officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to service time at the mortuary. Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday May 10, 2016 at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Hutchinson, Ks., with Pastor Nathan Karriker officiating.
