Mella Jean Doerge, age 71, Joplin, passed away at 4:45 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Mercy Hospital.
Mella was born May 24, 1944 in Lawrence, Kansas to the late Milo Embrey and Velma Turner Embrey and had lived in the Joplin area most of her life.
She worked as a department associate for Wal-Mart (15th and Rangeline) for seventeen years. Mella had also worked as a cook for Ozark Christian College and Eastview Baptist Church Daycare for a short time. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and the Fellowship of Missouri Baptist Evangelist Wives.
Mella enjoyed gardening, canning and sewing. She loved arts and crafts and ceramics. Mella spent every moment she could with her family, whether it was going on picnics or traveling. She was fortunate to have visited many places, both national and internationally.
Mella married Fred Doerge on August 3, 1961 in Joplin. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1997.
Mella was also preceded in death by a grandson, Linden Curry.
Survivors include her children, Chris Doerge and his wife, Camille, Joplin, Chad Doerge, Ventura, California, Robin Schneider and her husband, David, Paola, Kansas, Amber Doerge-Curry and her husband, Chad, Joplin; two brothers, Robert Embrey, Irving, Texas, Orville Embrey, Republic, MO; grandchildren, Ashley Doerge and Diamond Bradley, Alexandria Watson and husband, Tristan, Hannah Hymer and husband, Mike, Brandon Schneider and wife, Jessica, Samuel Schneider and wife, Kierra, Haleigh Schneider, Zane Curry, Alexander Curry, Kaylen Curry, Sophia Doerge, Milo Doerge, Micha and Tommy Winter; and great grandchildren, Dominique Bradley, Daunte Bradley, Davien Bradley, Skyler Winter, Luke Winter, River Hymer, Kristen Schneider, Andrew Schneider, Auggie Schneider and Aiden Hymer.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
