Lewis Saccanne

Lewis Albert Saccanne, Jr., 93, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away at 10:20 p.m., October 24, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. 

He entered the gates of Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior, where he was reunited with his family members who had gone before him. He was born April 13, 1923 at Ringo, Kansas, the son of Lewis Albert Sr. and Lillie (Halliday) Saccanne. He graduated from Girard High School. Mr. Saccanne served in the United States Army Infantry in the 555th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Unit during World War II. 

On October 9, 1948, he was united in marriage to Marie E. O’Dell at Pittsburg. She preceded him in death on May 26, 2010. Mr. Saccanne worked for McNally’s Manufacturing, where he started out as a helper and worked his way up through the company until he became the Shop Supervisor at the KC Southern Shop. He was instrumental in trouble shooting and helping to start up new plants in the Coal Preparation. While working for McNally’s, they also sent him to Korea to start up a plant, and while there, he helped build a church. Membership was held in the United Presbyterian Church until they merged with the Presbyterian Church, where he was active. After moving to Joplin, he became a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church. He loved to work on cars, camping and canoeing with his family, and loved to grow a huge garden, with which he shared his produce. 

Survivors include two daughters, Carol McPheeters and her husband, Dan of Joplin, MO and Debbie Blystone and her husband, Fred of Webb City, MO; five grandsons, Daniel McPheeters and his wife, Rachael, Patrick McPheeters and his fiancĂ©, Kerstyn Middleton, Drew McPheeters, Robbie McPheeters and Matthew Blystone; five great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn McPheeters, Jakob McPheeters, Elijah McPheeters, Conner McPheeters, and Hunter Middleton; a nephew, Don Hull and his wife, Karen of El Dorado, KS; and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son, Billy L. Saccanne, four brothers, Robert, George, Charles and James Sacanne, and two sisters, Mildred and Maurine Saccanne. 

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday (Oct. 28) at Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 10:00 a.m. The family suggests memorials to Bethany Presbyterian Church.
