Charlie Floyd

Charles “Charlie” Stuart Floyd, age 90, Joplin, passed away at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Mercy Hospital, Springfield.

Charlie was born December 19, 1927 in Old Linn Creek, Missouri to the late Frank W. Floyd and Maude Hall Floyd. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Neal and Howard and sister Marge. He grew up in Asbury, Missouri in Jasper County. He was a 1944 graduate of Carl Junction High School and a 1951 graduate of the University of Missouri- Columbia with a BS in Agricultural Engineering.

Charlie was a veteran of the United States Army serving as a Private First Class in the Army Medical Corps in Springfield, Mo and San Francisco, Ca. He was a skilled engineer writing technical and repair manuals for farm implements and tractor companies in Kansas City and St. Louis. Charlie was a service manager at a farming machine shop until he opened his own business where he designed dragsters. He worked with H&R Block in Joplin, Mo for sixteen years after he “retired”.

He married Dorothy Jeanne Collins on November 20, 1965 in Lee's Summit, Missouri. She preceded him in death on October 24, 2012, just shy of their 50th anniversary.

Survivors include niece and husband Kay and Clark Gilson of La Quinta, CA, nephew and wife, Larry and Debbie Floyd of Concho AZ, niece and husband, Jeanne and Chip Allen of Sonoma, CA, nephew Frank Floyd of Columbia MO, and many grand nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews. He is survived by grandson, wife and great-grandson, Donald, Angela, and Huck Collins of Ava MO, and granddaughter and great-granddaughters, Cortney, Mazlyn, and Quynn Collins of Pleasant Hill, MO.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
