Edith Pemberton

Edith M. Pemberton, 102, Carthage, MO, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 at St. Luke’s Nursing Center, Carthage. Edith Marie McGinnis was born February 1, 1915 in Rich Hill, MO to the late David Harve and Ester May McGinnis. She graduated from Rich Hill High School, Class of 1933. Edith married Raymond Pemberton on October 6, 1938 and moved to Carthage in 1943, where her husband was manager of Edmiston’s Department Store; he preceded her in death on February 3, 1987. Edith worked as a department buyer and manager of children’s wear at Ramsey’s Department Store for 29 years, and assistant manager of the store for five years.

Mrs. Pemberton was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, serving as member and director of St. Margaret’s Altar Guild, managing the Grace Church Book Store, and serving as a vestrywoman. Edith was also a member of Chapter HH PEO, Carthage Junior Tourists, McCune-Brooks Hospital Auxiliary and Soroptimist International of Carthage.
Survivors include one niece, Arloa McGinnis, Cheyenne, WY; one great niece, Tave Accardo, Ft. Collins, CO; nephews, David Chladek, Castle Rock, CO; Jim Chladek, Casper, WY and Mike McGinnis, Yuma, AZ; one great nephew, Tad Herz, Denver, CO; and innumerable friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond, two brothers, and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held 11 am, Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Grace Episcopal Church. Family will receive friends at the church following the interment. Fr. Steve Wilson and Fr. Ted Estes will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Park Cemetery, Carthage. Memorial gifts are suggested to Grace Episcopal Church in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 W.
