Emmett L. McFarland, age 82 of Webb City, Missouri passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday January 2, 2018.
He was born July 18, 1935 in Elvins, Missouri to Ercle and Rhonda (Harvey) McFarland.
Emmett served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and retired after 21 years of service. He worked for the Webb City Police Department starting in October 1973 and worked his way up the ranks and became Chief of Police in December 1985 and retired in August 1996. Emmett was instrumental in starting many programs and improving the operations of the police department. He attended and graduated from MSSU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He was a member of the Lions Club and had served on the board of the Webb City Senior Citizens Center. Emmett was a member of Liberty Baptist, Webb City, Missouri.
He married June Spencer on June 17, 1956 in Webb City, Missouri and she preceded him in death on January 20, 2010.
Emmett is survived by two sons, Ricky McFarland, Larry McFarland and wife Terry; one daughter Vicki Lett and husband Michael; one sister Barbara Mackay; seven grandchildren, Michah Cramer and husband Cody, Kendal Coffey, Jessica Hughes and husband Eric, Kelli McFarland, Ryan McFarland and wife Samantha, Missy Belieu and husband Ken, Melinda Sarbacher and husband Cory; fifteen great grandchildren, and one God grandson, CJ Valdez.
Memorial services will be 3:00 pm Sunday January 7, 2018 at the Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Balfour officiating. The family will receive friends 1:00 – 3:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
